Elle Bank Wood is a mixed woodland with a blend of broadleaves and conifers, situated on north and northeast slopes in the Peak District National Park. The woodland's soil composition is generally peat and loamy, and the mature canopy includes oak, beech, birch, sycamore, rowan, horse chestnut, Scots pine, and larch. The understory features holly, hazel coppice, and hawthorn, and there are open areas for processing firewood and glades at higher elevations. The woodland has a mix of terrain, with some areas being more steep and others flatter.
