Byng Wood is a designated Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) located within the larger Hawkshead Woodland area, boasting a mix of ancient woodland and heathland habitats. The woodland features a variety of trees, including tall oaks, ash trees, and holly, with a well-developed understorey and small open spaces perfect for camping. The site is home to a rich array of flora, including bluebell, honeysuckle, and wood sage, as well as a range of rare plant species. The woodland's diverse habitat supports a wide range of wildlife, including deer, foxes, and hares. An excellent stone track provides year-round access to the wood, and the site includes small clearings suitable for beehives or other woodland features.
