Courtenay Wood is a valley woodland along the River Taw, recorded as an Ancient Replanted Woodland since at least 1600 AD. The woodland features a mix of planted conifers, including Sitka spruce, as well as areas of wild cherry, a hedgerow, and hazel coppice. A picturesque stream runs through the heart of the woodland and joins the River Taw. The land is well drained and has fertile soils. Mature conifer trees, including Japanese larch and Douglas fir, stand along the western fringe, while the remainder of the woodland includes a mix of native broadleaved species, including birch, beech, and rowan. The woodland has been the subject of an Ancient Woodland Restoration project, with selective removal of Sitka spruce and targeted planting of native trees. Other features include a rustic picnic bench, a small footbridge, and an old hedge bank along the eastern boundary. The woodland has a mixed habitat that supports a wide range of wildlife, including red and roe deer, badgers, and water-associated bird species.
