Drakes Wood is an ancient semi-natural woodland dominated by mature oak and ash trees, with occasional beech and Scots pine. The site features a wide ride leading from the main access track into the heart of the woodland, as well as a network of woodland paths connecting several grassy glades. The terrain is generally flat, making the woodland easy to explore. A spacious clearing at the end of the ride could be used as a central camp or activity base. The surrounding area supports a rich variety of wildlife, including hare, muntjac, and roe deer. The wood is bordered by open fields to the south and features an abundance of bluebells in the spring.
