The site previously served as a petrol filling station, and although it is now bare and overgrown, some signs of its previous use remain. There is an extant planning permission for the erection of a motel and filling station, which was first granted in 1996 and has been amended several times since. A more recent application for residential development on the site was refused at appeal.
