Hornbeam Wood is a mixed woodland on a west-facing slope, covered with a diverse array of mature broadleaf trees, including oak, beech, hazel, and hornbeam. The woodland features a shallow gorge and a public footpath that bisects the land, with a restricted byway running along the western boundary. A small group of conifers lies within the southern end of the wood, and there is a stand of coppiced hazel in the central section. The woodland has a tranquil atmosphere, with a variety of wildflowers, ferns, and ancient woodland indicators including bluebells, wood anemone, and oxalis. A variety of birds, including robins, woodpeckers, and nuthatches, can be found within the woodland, and there is a possibility of spotting birds of prey in the adjacent Harper's Wood. The woodland also features the ruins of a small stone building and is close to the Offa's Dyke Path, a scenic walking route that runs along the eastern boundary of the wood.
