Hartbeech Wood is an ancient woodland in the North Downs AONB, featuring widespread bluebells and veteran trees, including old pollarded hornbeams and mature oaks. The wood is primarily sweet chestnut coppice, with some mature beech and standard chestnut trees. Young yews are scattered throughout and will grow into large mature trees if left undisturbed. A herd of deer can be found in the area, as well as orchids, twyblades, and the nationally rare Duke of Burgundy butterfly. The access to the wood involves a ¾ mile walk along a private forest track, followed by a right of way in perpetuity from the public highway. The wood is surrounded by other wooded areas, including Denge Wood, which is home to diverse wildlife and flora.
